Casey Anthony Defense Attorney Cheney Mason Objects to Quran Burning

One of the defense attorneys of Casey Anthony, the acquitted  Florida mother accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, spoke out about the proposed Qur'an burning by Pastor Terry Jones in Gainesville, Florida, in 2010.

Jones had planned to hold a Qur'an burning on the ninth anniversary of 9/11, publicly stating he believes the book is evil because it incites violent, radical behavior and does not coincide with Bible teachings.

According to WDBO,on September 9, 2010, Attorney Cheney Mason wrote a letter to the now former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, former Attorney General Bill McCollum, and Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe, regarding the negative attention the state has received due to the proposed burning. Mason stated the United States Military could or would be harmed by this action that is in absolute defiance and violation of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

Mason also requested leaders in the state legally enjoin Jones from conducting the Quran burning.

Mason’s concerns fortunately were all for naught, as on the same day the letter was written, Jones announced he was cancelling the event for the Qur'an burning.

Newly elected Florida Governor Rick Scott and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi may also receive letters during the first year in their respective offices as the tenth anniversary of September 11 approaches and if Jones plans another rally and burning.
