Emergency Hearing To Be Held Wednesday -- Judge To Rule Regarding Depose of Cindy And George Anthony

An emergency hearing will be held Wednesday afternoon to determine whether the parents of Casey Anthony will have to appear for a deposition in the civil case against their daughter.
A defamation lawsuit was filed months ago by Zenaida Gonzalez, a woman who shares the same name as a baby sitter with whom Casey Anthony claims she left her daughter, Caylee, at an Orange County apartment complex. Caylee's remains were found in December.

Gonzalez is seeking more than $15,000 in punitive damages, claiming she has been harmed by being linked to the case. Casey Anthony claims she left her daughter with another woman by the same name.

Brad Conway, the attorney who represents George and Cindy Anthony, filed a motion requesting that the depositions be canceled or delayed until May, when a ruling is expected on whether Gonzalez's lawsuit is frivolous.
Conway claims Gonzalez's attorneys will ask embarassing questions that are irrelevant to the lawsuit. Gonzalez's attorneys have invited the media to witness and videotape the depositions, which Conway said is a publicity stunt.

Conway also requested that his clients be deposed via a written questionnaire, similar to the deposition Casey Anthony is providing in the case.
Gonzalez's attorney do not want to wait until May for the depositions, saying they want their client's name cleared as soon as possible.
Lee Anthony, the brother of Casey Anthony, is scheduled to deposed by Gonzalez's attorneys on Friday.

JUDGE TO RULE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ON ANTHONY'S DEPOSITION

There will be a court hearing Wednesday afternoon so Casey Anthony's parents can try to get out of answering questions under oath Thursday morning in Zenaida Gonzalez's lawsuit.
Zenaida Gonzalez of Kissimmee is suing Casey for blaming a nanny by the same name of kidnapping Caylee Anthony, Casey's 2-year-old daughter who was found dead in December.
The Anthonys had previously agreed to answer questions, but now they're claiming they're too emotionally fragile.
Casey's brother Lee is scheduled to answer questions in the defamation lawsuit on Friday morning.

ZENAIDA'S LAWYERS GEARING UP TO FIGHT IN DEFAMATION CASE

Lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez are stepping up their fight in the defamation case against Casey Anthony. They are trying to shoot down Casey's argument that she did not defame Zenaida, because she told detectives it is not the specific Zenaida Gonzalez who disappeared with Caylee in June.
Zenaida's attorneys say Casey later changed her story, which defamed Zenaida Gonzalez a second time.
"She wants to squawk and say, 'How was your client hurt?' Well, it's kind of a no-brainer. Just tell the public what you told the police and you could have cleared her name early on," Zenaida's attorney, Keith Mitnik, said.
Tuesday afternoon, the attorney representing Cindy and George Anthony filed a court motion to prevent them from having to answer questions in the lawsuit against their daughter Casey, which they are scheduled to do on Thursday.

Brad Conway Attempts To Delay George And Cindy Anthony's Depositions In Gonzalez Civil Suit

BRAD CONWAY:"..the suit is nothing more than an attempt to annoy and embarrass them."

Brad Conway has filed a motion to prevent George and Cindy Anthony from giving depositions in the Zenaida Gonzalez civil suit against their daughter, Casey Anthony.
The lawyer for George and Cindy Anthony said in the motion Tuesday that forcing them to give depositions in the suit is nothing more than an attempt to annoy and embarrass them.
Gonzalez is suing their daughter for defamation after Casey Anthony claimed a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped her daughter Caylee.
Casey Anthony was charged last October with first-degree murder in connection with Caylee's death. Casey remains in Orange County Jail awaiting trial later this year.
In his motion, attorney Brad Conway points out that George Anthony recently tried to commit suicide. He also acknowledged that both he and Cindy Anthony are getting professional help to deal with the grief of losing their granddaughter.
Conway argues that the Anthony's don't know Gonzalez. Conway is asking the court to delay the Anthony's depositions until after the judge decides in May whether this civil suit will even continue.
Conway said Gonzalez' lawyers are asking for punitive money damages. Conway states the Anthony family, precisely Casey, has no money for her to win.

The Anthony's are scheduled to give depositions Thursday, pending the judge's ruling to Conway's motion.

A "Casey Anthony" doll wrapped in an America flag is being sold on the auction site eBay.
The doll is the latest in a series of items people have tried to sell related to the case.

What a concept. Can you imagine all the possibilities that sick individuals can have with this? "Killer Mom Casey Doll" complete with Sunfire Car with empty pizza box and "rotten" smell. Can you see it? Casey Barbie shopping at Target on Best Friend "Amy's" stolen checks? What fun for the kids. I could go on and on... but I choose not. I can only imagine that some sicko is already out there planning out more morbid scenarios that my mind does not want to visit.

Earlier this year, a Jacksonville company marketed a Caylee doll. That venture turned out unsuccessful after enough people and criticism caused the company to pull the doll from the market. During the same time, someone was trying to sell Casey Anthony voodoo dolls on eBay.

In regard to the "repainting" of this doll's face, I do have to admit, this "Casey" has more emotion and beauty than that of the real Casey Anthony.

Casey's decision to wear an American Flag for the "Anything But Clothes" party shows that she is either quite creative, or quite mental. I choose the latter. However, most murders are creative and mental, some, actually have high I.Q's. Casey's choice to wear the American Flag was a disgrace in my opinion, as Casey, herself, is a disgrace to mothers and motherhood.

Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera was issued a trespass warning after a contentious interview with the father of a missing Putnam County girl.

As the search for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings entered its 13th day, the county was abuzz about the contentious interview with her father Saturday night with Rivera.

Cummings got upset when Rivera said he'd been told by members of Haleigh's mother's family that Cummings hit the child and has said he is 75 percent sure he knows who has her. Accusations of drug use, Ronald being a drug informant, and other alleged statements indicating a dark side to the missing girl's father's life were denied by Cummings.

Rivera also threw allegations of child abuse at Ronald Cummings, although coming from Haleigh's mother's side of the camp. Geraldo asked Cummings if he had ever hit his daughter, Haleigh. Geraldo said Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, has photos to prove the fact. Ronald Cummings stated that he had only disciplined Haleigh by spanking her behind, "as in guidelines with DCF (sic) to spanking." Although the photo of Haleigh depicted scratches on her face and chin area, along with some bruising, Crystal Sheffield stated that the school had sent a letter home with Haleigh that day saying Haleigh received the injuries after a fall on the sidewalk. Crystal Sheffield's mother, Marie Grifis, grandmother of Haleigh, pressed that the injuries were not consistent "with "a fall on concrete."

Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene later, and issued Rivera the trespass warning at the request of the two property owners on whose land the Cummings family is camping while their trailer remains closed off as a crime scene.

A trespass warning means Rivera would be arrested if he came back onto the property. Rivera told deputies he understood and stated he would not come back to the address, but declined to sign the trespass warning, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Ronald Cummings, his four year old son, and seventeen year old girlfriend had lived in makeshift tents before Friday, when someone donated a travel camper for their use. Their double-wide home is still considered a crime scene and the family is not allowed entry into the home.

In an exclusive interview, Geraldo Rivera obtains allegations of verbal and physical abuse against Crystal Sheffield, mother of Haleigh, as well as Haleigh, herself, at the hands of Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father. A photo of Haleigh is shown, where she appears to have scratches and bruises on her face. Haleigh's school states that she received the injuries as a result of a fall on the sidewalk at school. Haleigh's mother, Crystal and her family have a different theory. Also, accusations of drug use and a darker side to Ronald Cummings and his family are made.

Even though Ronald Cummings has custody of the children allegedly due to Crystal's drug use, it is Crystal's family that is throwing accusations at Ronald's drug abuse; selling and distributing drugs, and even allegations of being a drug informant. A very shady life for two small children to live in. With that said, someone in the system found it, at the time, the best interest of the children were to be with Ronald Cummings.

These are allegations and have not been proven. Ronald Cummings does have prior drug charges against him, as well as Crystal Sheffield. There is also something to be said for Ronald's choice in dating and living with a seventeen year old girl and having her act as caretaker of his minor children in his absence, while she is a minor herself.

Who is lying, who is telling the truth? Only they themselves know for now.

Although Haleigh does have Turner Syndrome, her school has stated, according to Geraldo, that Haleigh has missed 22 unexcused days of school. Out of 150 days there are 22 unexcused; 9 excused and 6 tardies.

If the school knows of her illness, and she is under a doctor's care, these absences should be excused, if they are related to the illness and the parent is providing correct physician documentation.

I am still concerned why there is not more being said regarding Haleigh's Turner Syndrome during the parent's pleas for her return. Haleigh needs medication each day. Are these parents not concerned with this, or did the abductor just happen to take the medication along with Haleigh and know the medication schedule?

Haleigh Cummings Search: Grandmother and Girl Friend Speak To Matt Lauer Friday On Today Show 2.20.09

On the Today Show Friday morning, Matt Lauer spoke to Ronald Cummings mother, and Haleigh's grandmother, Teresa Neves, along with Ronald's seventeen year old girlfriend, Misty Croslin. (see video below)

When Matt asked Misty if her cousin, Joe, who is "missing" from Tennessee, may have taken Haleigh, Misty replied, "I have no idea. I really don't know. I really don't know if he did or not." Matt responded "That's an interesting way to answer the question." Adding, "I think that a lot of people might say, 'No I'm positive that person had nothing to do with Haleigh'."
Misty described her cousin Joe as "being in trouble a lot"; "always in trouble"; and apparently had a lot of dealings with law enforcement. However, Misty did not elaborate on the charges. Misty added, "I haven't spoken to him (Joe) since he's left (sic)". It is being reported that this "cousin" had been in Satsuma with the family, but has since left the area. It is believed that this is the same cousin that it is reported, but denied by Ronald Cummings, that there was a fight over a handgun the day before Haleigh went missing.

There has also been a "Haleigh sighting" in Tennessee, near the Knoxville area.

There have been over 1300 tips since Haleigh disappeared. Misty continues to stick with her story that she was at home the entire night. Misty also states in the interview that she "got up, noticed that Haleigh was missing and got on the phone with the cops". We know that there was a time lapse from whenever Misty realized Haleigh went missing until 911 was called. 911 was not called until 3:27 am, shortly after Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father, returned home from his employment, where he worked the night shift.

The family is now living in makeshift "tents" because their home is still considered a crime scene and has not been cleared and released back to the family.

editor's note: If a family member has taken little Haleigh, are they not aware of her illness of Turner Syndrome? Children with Turner Syndrome have to take daily medication. I have not heard a lot of this mentioned in the "pleas" for Haleigh's return. Would you not put that out there, if your child, that she needs medication, and without it can become seriously ill? Even with her medication, Haleigh's immune system is low, without her medication, it would become dangerously compromised.

10:05am- excerpt from Annie Downing statement:
During Caylee’s 2nd birthday, Casey Anthony told Downing “Oh my God, this is supposed to be Caylee’s Day. I’m her mom. She’s not her mom,” in reference to Cindy Anthony helping Caylee open presents.
Downing also told investigators that she received a phone call from Lee Anthony in October after information had been made public about Casey telling another friend she could get some Xanax from her friend named Annie.
UPDATE 2:
10:40am- Excerpt from Annie Downing statement After Casey Anthony was released from jail once last year, Annie Downing visited Anthony several times at her home and spent the night once. Anthony told Downing, “when this is all said and done, I have so much to tell you,” Downing told investigators.
While Downing was visiting the Anthony home, Casey Anthony found Cindy Anthony on the computer using Casey’s email address and signing emails with Casey’s name. They argued about it, but Cindy Anthony told her daughter that “if this can find us Caylee, then you know I’m going to do whatever I can.” Anthony also eluded to the fact that her ex-fiancee Jesse Grund had a key to her car and “may have done something to it after it was abandoned,” the report said.
The two stopped being close friends around August 2007 because Downing found out that Anthony was a liar, the report said

Michelle Murphy, former roommate of Lee Anthony interview excerpt- In February 2007, Casey Anthony allegedly had a miscarriage from a man named Brandon Snow. None of her friends, including Annie Downing or Murphy, believed this was true.
On two different occasions, Lee and George Anthony told Murphy that Cindy and George Anthony were considering getting custody of Caylee, the report said.
In March 2007, shortly after the alleged miscarriage, Anthony called Murphy and told her she was feeling “crazy” and was considering getting “herself committed,” the report said. Anthony had “imagined this life with Brandon [Snow] and that she was supposed to have this baby in October,” according to the report. In both Michelle Murphy and Annie Downing interviews, they mentioned they did not believe Casey had a miscarriage.

Haleigh Cummings Update: Ron and Misty Taken Back In For Questioning; Reward Raised

Wednesday afternoon, sources inside Putnam County indicate that Ronald Cummings, father of Haleigh Cummings, 5, missing since February 10, 2009 and Haleigh’s Mother, Crystal Sheffield have been escorted separately to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Cummings was transported by the lead detective in the case and Ms. Sheffield was alerted when deputies phoned her Mother, Marie Griffiths and asked her to bring her to the Police Department.
Attempts to locate the family of 17 year old Misty Croslin, were not successful. Police announced yesterday Misty Croslin and her family were going to be the focus of today’s work in the investigation. It is unclear if a suspect had been located, the child had been found, or whether Ms. Croslin’s account of the evening the child was abducted has pointed the investigation into a different direction.

It is also being reported that a car has been seized. No further details were given. Also, a former tenant says that the trailer was very noisy and that in his opinion, "It would have been hard to have taken a child from the home without anyone knowing."

An anonymous donor has contributed $10,000 to the reward, making it now a total of $16,000.00 for the return of Haleigh Cummings.

Casey Anthony Documents: Continued Updates on Released Documents

Included in this new evidence is a serial number found on a shirt taken from the Anthony home. It matches a number taken from a shirt collar found with the body. Investigators also said a pull up diaper found with the remains is also consistent with those taken from the Anthony home.

Also found in the Anthony's garage was a canvas laundry bag of the same make in which the remains were disposed.

When Casey Anthony was informed of the remains being discovered, but before they were officially identified as Caylee, the documents indicate Casey "hyperventilated" and was given medication.

Casey Anthony Documents: Duct Tape Matches Duct Tape Found On Gas Cans In Anthony Home

The State Attorney's Office released about 500 pages and photographs of legal and investigative documents in the case against Casey Anthony Wednesday morning.

The big news: investigators say the duct tape discovered on Caylee Anthony's skull at the crime scene matches duct tape stuck on a gas can at the Anthony’s' house.

Photos released show strips of silver-colored duct tape and several plastic bags scattered at the site where Caylee's remains were found. Right now reporters are digging through the information. In the hundreds of pages of discovery, photographs of the crime scene and more interviews. At least one interview with Casey Anthony's friends say she had an emotional breakdown and "wanted to be committed"

Orange County detectives reports says that the small skull was near a black plastic bag, the skull didn't have any flesh left on it, but "quite a bit of hair" was still present.

Detective Yuri Melich says "I immediately noticed that there appeared to be a piece of silver duct tape across the mouth area of the skull, then goes on to say, "The tape appeared to have been purposely placed there."

Since an Amber Alert was issued for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings one week ago, more than 1,100 tips have poured into a Crimestoppers hot line; and until Tuesday afternoon investigators have not released specific information about the leads they've received.
However, on Tuesday, new information was released that Haleigh's father's girlfriend, 17-year-old Misty Croslin, may not have been at home the night Haleigh disappeared.
Investigators in Putnam County said they are looking into the Croslin tip as a possibility.
Haleigh was reported missing just after 3 a.m. last Tuesday when Croslin told authorities she woke up and found the child missing. Croslin did not immediately call 911, she waited until Haleigh's father, Ronald arrived home from work, at approximately 3:25 AM to make the call. The 911 call came in at 3:27AM. Since the investigation began, Croslin has told detectives that she put Haleigh and the girl's younger brother to bed at about 8 p.m., and that at 10 p.m. both children were still in bed.
Many inconsistencies in Misty Croslin's statements have led local police to continue to investigate Croslin.

Late this afternoon, investigators say that Misty Croslin may not have been home at all that evening. Investigators also say they have in their possession the pink shirt that Haleigh is reported to have been last seen wearing, and the shirt that is listed in the Amber Alert. It is not known at this time how LE obtained the pink shirt. In an interview with Nancy Grace, Ronald Cummings mother, Teresa Neves, says she believes that Haleigh was wearing the pink shirt and also that Misty was at home at the time of the disappearance. She also said she knew of family members "that checked in on them", and "dropped off clothing for the kids." Ms. Neves claims she believes that someone was "watching her son and his family". Ronald Cummings, along with the two children and his girlfriend, Misty Croslin have only lived in the home for three weeks. Misty claims on the 911 calls that she is the "mother" of Haleigh and describes herself as Ronald Cummings' "wife". Ms. Neves claims that there is no drug history "that she knows of" regarding Misty. She also says that Ronald has not been working the night shift that long, perhaps four or five weeks. Ms. Neves states that Ronald and Misty have only been dating for five months.

Sex Offender Missing From Near Search Area

Chad Eugene Reynolds is a sexual predator from Marion County, FL, south of Putnam County. Reynolds was supposedly missing February 3, 2009, when he failed to check in with his probation officer. According to indictments, Reynolds allegedly attempted to sexually assault an 11 year old girl by cutting her shorts and panties. Also in the indictment, Reynolds allegedly broke into the victims' double wide trailer armed with a knife. He has not been able to be located by law enforcement and there is a warrant out for his arrest for violation of probation. He is not considered a suspect, but is wanted for questioning.

Croslin said when she awoke at about 3 a.m. to use the bathroom she noticed Haleigh was missing.
"I didn't make it to the bathroom. I seen the kitchen light on and I walked in the kitchen and the back door is wide open." "I go in the room and she's gone. And that's all I know. When I went to bed she was there and then when I got up and she was gone." Croslin has also said that "she got up to get a drink", instead of the bathroom scenario as well.
Croslin has been interviewed by detectives and volunteered to take a lie-detector test -- which she said she passed -- but had not spoken publicly until midday Thursday.
"I didn't hear anything at all. If I'd heard something, I would have got up and I wouldn't have let them take her," Croslin said.
Croslin said Haleigh and her 3-year-old brother "look at me like their mom."
"I love her like she's my own," she said. "I just want her to come home."
Croslin said she doesn't blame herself, but she's emotionally devastated and just want to know that Haleigh is safe.
"I wished they'd took me instead of her, because I could have fought," Croslin said. "She's only 5; she can't really do anything. What do they want with a little 5-year-old?"

The public will have to wait a few days for the release. Jose Baez underwent testing at an area hospital over the weekend and requires time to go over the discovery and consult with his client before the documents are released to the public.

Casey Anthony Saga: Baez Hospitalized--1,000+ Pages Documents Released to Defense

The state released over 1,100 pages of evidence to Casey Anthony’s defense team on Monday.

According to a source close to the investigation, test results from the FBI crime lab on the duct tape found on slain toddler Caylee Anthony's skull are in that new batch of evidence.

Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby said the duct tape evidence brings the possibility of the death penalty back in to play. Hornsby said it may force Anthony’s defense attorney, Jose Baez, to "put Casey on the stand" or "consider a plea bargain."

When asked if Casey Anthony’s fingerprints were on the duct tape, a source with direct knowledge of the investigation said, "This is not going to be good news for the defense."

A spokeswoman with the state attorney's office stated this new information released to the defense will not be released to the public until at least midweek.

We are learning now that Casey Anthony’s trial is scheduled to begin in March, not in one to two years as was speculated just a week ago.


CASEY ANTHONY'S ATTORNEY JOSE BAEZ HOSPITALIZED

Casey Anthony's lead attorney was hospitalized this weekend for stomach problems.

A spokesperson with Jose Baez's team confirmed Baez checked himself into the hospital to have some tests run.

His spokesperson, Marti MacKenzie, said Baez is more than ready to defend Casey in court. She would not comment on questions if Baez's condition is stress related.

Casey Anthony's defense team has a new spokeswoman and, despite claims to the contrary, Marti MacKenzie says she is the only spokeswoman for the Jose Baez law firm.
Press Corps Media spokesperson Todd Black was really Gil Cabot, who went to prison for trying to extort money from a Los Angeles news anchor. As of Thursday, Press Corps was still sending news releases.
"If you get a call tomorrow from somebody that says, you know I'm Mary Smith and now I'm involved with Baez's law firm and I'll be sending you a press release in 10 minutes, I would ignore it," Marti MacKenzie said.
MacKenzie is on Baez's payroll as an expert. She has more than 20 years experience working with attorneys in high-profile cases.

Officials say the mobile home where a repeat sex offender raped and murdered a 9-year-old Homosassa, Florida girl in 2005 has burned down.

Citrus County officials said Monday that the fire was suspicious. John Evander Couey's former trailer was vacant when the fire started Sunday night, but officials say it's a "total loss" because of extensive damage. The fire investigation was turned over to the Florida State Fire Marshals Office.

Couey told investigators he kept Jessica in a closet for several days before burying her alive in a shallow grave outside the trailer. Jessica had been abducted from her home nearby. Couey was a transient and had been employed at the school Jessica attended as a janitor. Couey's trailer could be seen from Jessica's family's home. Jessica, or "Jessie", as America came to know the "girl in the big pink hat", captured the hearts of many during her disappearance. Jessica is believed to have been held captive over the weekend, which over a period of three days, she was raped and later murdered by 47-year-old John Couey.

After approximately three weeks of intense searching for Lunsford around the area of her home, John Couey, age 47, was arrested in Savannah, Georgia for an outstanding warrant of cannabis possession, but he was released after questioning because it was only a local warrant. He was later arrested in Augusta, Georgia.
On March 18, 2005, Couey confessed to having kidnapped and murdered Lunsford. On March 19, 2005 police found Lunsford's body buried in a hole, covered with leaves, near a residence on West Snowbird Court.
On March 7, 2007, Couey was found guilty in Florida of all charges in relation to Lunsford's death, including first degree murder, kidnapping, and sexual battery. On March 14, 2007, the jury in Couey's trial recommended the death penalty. Couey's case now is on appeal in the Florida Supreme Court. The constitutionality of admitting evidence collected after the unconstitutional "confession" is expected to be the main issue in the appeal. Couey continues to maintain that he is innocent of the charges.
On August 24, 2007, Couey was sentenced to the death penalty, in addition to 3 consecutive life sentences

Couey alleged in an audio/videotaped confession that he had abducted, raped, and murdered Jessica Lunsford. A judge ruled on June 30, 2006, that Couey's audio/videotaped confession was inadmissible in court because, at the time the confession was recorded, police had not granted Couey's requests for access to a lawyer, thereby rendering the confession invalid and unreliable under the Fifth and Sixth Amendments. Over Couey's objection, the trial court ruled that all evidence collected after the confession, including the recovery of Lunsford's body, would be allowed in court, as would any incriminating statements allegedly made by Couey to investigators and a jail guard.

Couey's confession alleged the following:

Couey entered Lunsford's house in the early morning hours of February 24, 2006, through an unlocked door at about three o'clock in the morning, awakened Lunsford, told her "Don't yell or nothing," and told her to follow him out of the house.
Couey occupied a trailer along with two women, 100 yards away, at the time of Lunsford's abduction. He admitted in a videotaped and recorded deposition to raping Lunsford in his bedroom. Lunsford was kept in Couey's bed that evening, where he raped her again in the morning. Couey put her in his closet and ordered her to remain there, which she did as he reported for work at "Billy's Truck Lot". Three days after he abducted her, on February 27, 2005, Couey tricked Jessica into getting into two garbage bags by saying he was going to 'take her home'. He instead buried her alive as he decided he could do nothing else with the girl. He said he 'Didn't want people seeing him and Lunsford across the street.'

On March 19, 2005, police found Lunsford's body at a residence located on West Sparrow Court, buried in a hole approximately 2 1/2' deep and 2' circular, covered with leaves. The body was removed from the ground and transported to the coroner's office. Her body had undergone "moderate" to "severe" decomposition and according to the publicly released autopsy reports was skeletonized on 2 fingers that Lunsford had poked through the bags before suffocating to death. The coroner ruled that death would have happened even in best circumstances within 2-3 minutes from lack of oxygen.

Mark Lunsford, Jessica's father, has united with other parents of missing children, including Mark Klass, Polly Klass's father and founder of KlassKids. Mr. Lunsford helps promote safety awareness to children and their parents of registered sex offenders in their areas. He has also been to Washington D.C. to speak before Congress and special committees on the subject. Following Jessica's death, Mark Lunsford, pursued new legislation to provide more stringent tracking of released sex offenders. The Jessica Lunsford Act was named after her. It requires tighter restrictions on sex offenders (such as wearing electronic tracking devices) and increased prison sentences for some convicted sex offenders. Jessica's Law refers to similar reform acts initiated by the states.

New Approach In Search For Missing Haleigh

The organization at the search command center for a missing Florida girl boasts several different law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Putnam County Sheriff's officials sent about 50 officers Monday to a wooded area that had not previously been searched after receiving a tip on the disappearance of 5 year old Haleigh Cummings, of Satsuma. Cummings was last seen before she was put to bed on the night of Monday, February 9.
Authorities say that they are nowhere near ready to stop the search, but they are changing the way they will proceed.
The FDLE calls it more of a "tactical approach" now.
"Instead of just a full out search of the entire area, now we want to say, 'okay, we've been there, is there a reason to be there?," said Dominic Pate with the FDLE.
He added that investigators will only search specific areas in response to specific leads and tips. There will no longer be daily, full-scale searches.
"We will search in this country and out of the country as long as there's a reason to do so," said Pate.
Investigators along with volunteers from Texas-based search group Equusearch have combed a more than 5-mile radius around Haleigh's father's home, the home where Haleigh was last seen.
Because Tim Miller, the founder of Equusearch, also believes little Haleigh is not in the area, he and his group packed up and departed on Monday.
"The hardest thing is calling it quits, leaving and then always second-guessing yourself," Miller said at a news conference. Miller searched for the better part of four days for the missing girl.
And it's hard too for those who love and miss the 5-year-old.
At a prayer vigil on Monday night, community members expressed concern that scaling back means giving up.
