On Friday, Anthony's lawyers filed a notice of appeal in an attempt to clear her of the four charges.
Today, July 15, 2008, is the three year anniversary of Cindy Anthony's 911 calls to law enforcement reporting her granddaughter Caylee Marie Anthony "had been stolen by the babysitter." At that point, Caylee had not been seen by her grandparents for thirty one days. During these thirty one days, Casey was telling her mother that Caylee was with a nanny and at several locations around Orlando, at the beach, or in Tampa with Casey. Casey, in a written statement to law enforcement, stated she "spoke to Caylee earlier in the day on July 15." However, when she tried to call the number back, it was disconnected.
Cindy Anthony, in a subsequent 911 call on the same day, made an excited utterance that her daughter's car had been found earlier in the day and "It smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car." That statement is one of the most known of the case.
Expert forensic testing and testimony in the trial revealed traces of human decomposition in the trunk of Casey Anthony's Pontiac Sunfire. This led law enforcement to believe Casey Anthony hid her daughter Caylee's decomposing body in her trunk several days before disposing the body at the area where the remains were found on December 11, 2008.
On June 30, 2008, the Pontiac Sunfire was towed from an Amscot parking lot to Johnson's Wrecker tow lot. George and Cindy Anthony did not pick up the Sunfire until July 15, 2008. George Anthony has made sworn statements that he "smelled decomposition in the car while at the tow lot."
